What is it?

Multimedia Fusion 2 Developer (MMFD2D) is a powerful game creation and application tool. It requires no programming skills or knowledge, but allows for complex logic within its functionality. It also allows for importing of assets, has a simple sprite animation tool, and also other items that go into customizing your own game. It has the ability to create full-blown games and applications that one could find online or in app stores all around, but does require time investment into learning it.

When creating games, MMF2D can really help in understanding the back-end of games at a high level. Having to create your own conditional statements in the Event Editor to cover concepts such as collision detection, artificial intelligence, and even the reward schedule gives a little window into the world of game programming.

Who is it for?

Great for an older group that may not be into learning programming and all of the intricacies that go along with it. This tool allows a user to focus more on the production and less on the back-end. It can also be a great introduction into programming for games, as the conditional statements, flags, and general game logic that must be designed give a great preview into what a programmer would have to do for a game.

The game logic is handled through the Event Editor

If you want to create some complex, professional-caliber games and applications in 2D without the monstrosity that can be programming, then this may be what you’re looking for. It can also create executables pretty easily, and so can be good for creating marketable products. Many professional games have been made with MMF2D.

It is also great if you are an artist or animator and want to make your own games, but don’t necessarily have the time to invest into learning programming or super-advanced game-making tools.

Where can I find it?

More information can be found at their website here. There is a trial version and a purchasable version. There are also other similar products: The Game Factory 2 and Multimedia Fusion 2. These have fewer features but are cheaper and may be more desirable if you aren’t creating professional games.
